Research the Smart Way: d. Obtain books from other libraries

Cooperative Borrowing

Ask your library about cooperative borrowing arrangements with other libraries in your area.

Area Academic and Public Libraries

If a specific title or books on a particular topic are not available at your VCCS library, try looking in WorldCat which searches the holdings of all public and academic libraries both locally and worldwide.  For information on how to use WorldCat's various features, see WorldCat Help.

You can also search the individual online library catalogs of public and academic libraries in the area to see whether they have a specific title or books on a particular topic. A reference librarian will also be happy to assist you in identifying libraries in the area that have a specific title or topic you are looking for.

Interlibrary Loan

Ask your library about borrowing books and accessing copies of articles through other libraries via interlibrary loan.

Books you request via interlibrary loan will be sent to your library via the postal service and your library will contact you when the books are in.

Articles you request via interlibrary loan will either be faxed to your library or you will receive an email with a link to access the requested article.
